Our history
New production of the classic Smuggler boats is running again
Production of the 21-foot, 24-foot and RS is in full swing. We may also start building a 34-foot boat.
The range
All boats are now built to order only, and the range currently covers:
- Smuggler 21 Open — compact centre console, nimble in the archipelago
- Smuggler 24 DC Classic — open daycruiser, roomy and seaworthy
- Smuggler 24 Coupé — cabin version with berths for overnighting
- Smuggler RS — race boat for Offshore 3A
Every model except the Smuggler RS is CE-marked. Half-finished hulls are also available, though these are not CE-marked.
The Smuggler trademark is today owned by the owner of Smugglerbåtar AB, Mikael Hamrén.
These are the same moulds as from the start of Smuggler, but following the transfer of rights and moulds they are now owned and delivered by Smugglerbåtar AB — Mikael Hamrén, since 2001.
Our aims
Smugglerbåtar AB began trading in 2001 by acquiring the old moulds. It took until 2003 before all the agreements had been negotiated and signed, after which the moulds were transported home to our own premises.
Work started with restoring and preparing the moulds so that new production could begin. Even before the moulds arrived there were plenty of ideas for improvements and changes, and on some moulds those plans could be carried out from the outset.
Our aim is craftsmanship in step with demand — not mass production.
Mass production is not an option for us at present — we do not have the workforce for it, and we are not willing to compromise the craft. We let customers come to us at their own pace rather than chasing volume.
If we see demand grow, there are ways to improve our delivery capacity. But that is not something we promise in advance.
It is worth stressing that the moulds are owned by us. These are not replicas or casts taken from old boats.
Why a Smuggler?
Seaworthy
Our boats are superb in a sea, thanks to their deep-V hulls and their legendary four-step strakes.
Practical
We now build our 21s with more stowage than before. There should be room for everything from the cool box to warps and a change of clothes for shore.
Fast
A Smuggler is unusually fast on the water compared with ordinary boats of the same power and the same rig.
Straight to the builder
You can reach us easily, so your main contact is the builder itself. Buying locally should be a pleasure.
